October 13, 2017 Update
I will try to keep this brief!
Last night, both Nickie Hudson and I spoke on your behalf. The board passed the middle management raise 4 to1. I want to thank everyone who shared their concerns with the board. A presentation was shared about the LCAP and the Smarter Balance data. It was inspiring to see such wonderful student growth thanks to our outstanding teachers!
Street Faire-This Sunday 9AM-5PM:
Attached is our booth location for this Sunday's street faire. Feel free to stop at the office first (address is below) to grab a snack or drink, we will have food for volunteers. Please remember you might have to walk a little as Grand will be blocked off. Please wear either your EEEA or school shirt, with comfortable clothing and shoes. Call my cell with any questions (760) 715-1108.
Thank you to the staff of Reidy Creek, Rose, Rock Springs, Glen View, and Bear Valley for taking the time to share their concerns and feedback with me. Please review the schedule for next week's visits. Reps, please send out an email letting your people know I am coming and would love to meet/hear from each of them.
All evaluations and evaluative materials are to come from your evaluator. Members of our bargaining unit (teachers, TOSAs, coaches, SLPs, Psychs, etc.) do not contribute to teacher/staff evaluations. If your administrator is asking you to do this, please contact me ASAP! See contract language here regarding evaluations. Members do not evaluate other members.
That is all for now! Enjoy your weekend!
Any questions! Let me know!
Friday, October 6, 2017 Update
Happy Friday! October is a busy month! It is:
My first week of site visits went well. Thank you to the staff of Oak Hill, Orange Glen, Pioneer, Felicita, and Quantum. I had great conversations with many staff members and appreciate everyone's honest feedback and input. Next week, I will be at Reidy Creek, Rock Springs, Rose, Glen View, and Bear Valley! I have attached the schedule as well.
We will have an all EEEA Social Hour on Thursday, October 26th from 3:30-5:00at the Escondido Brigantine. Each member will receive a happy hour appetizer courtesy of the EEEA. At this happy hour, we would love to hear your site's feedback about the Physical Guidelines Policy that we are currently attempting to bargain. Rep Council continues to share ideas, but are open to all members feedback.
The sub shortage is REAL! It seems to be getting worse, but I can assure you all hands are on deck. The district recently hired 20+ new subs. When your site is short subs, the rotation should include everyone! If that is not happening, please let me know!
It appears that most peoples retro pay was accurate. If you have any questions, please contact me or payroll. The Master's and Doctorate Stipends will begin in January 2018. The members have until November 10th to submit their paperwork to HR to receive this increase.
Our wonderful rep from California Casualty, Inez Morales sent us a contest application for classroom supplies and materials. Many of you know Inez from past social hours, she always brings the door prizes! The deadlines for submission is December 1, 2017. I have attached the flyer to this email. Please apply! It could be money in your pocket!
We are working to reestablish both a membership and PAC committee. The main focus of membership is maintaining an accurate roster, holding annual membership drives, and collaborating to improve member engagement.
The PAC's main purpose is to seek and recruit potential school board candidates. We have three (3) open seats next year and are eager to find great community members that are teacher friendly. I have attached the district list. We have seats open in Districts 2, 4 and 5. I would like to thank Laura Rader and Cindy Krier for stepping up to be your PAC chair and Treasurer. They are going to need our support and we are still looking for volunteers to serve on both committees.
EEEA is currently working on a couple of grants to engage our members, the first one is specifically geared towards newer members. CTA is hosting a NEW MEMBER EDUCATOR Weekend in San Francisco on February 23rd, and if we get approved, we will be able to send 5 new members to this conference. The members will be chosen based on Site Rep and NETS recommendation.
October Street Faire:
It is approaching, Sunday, October 15th! 9 AM - 5 PM. Please sign up! We need your help! Food will be provided all day! Here is the link.
That is all for now! Take care of yourself and each other! We are in this together!
